1. Introduction
Websites usually incorporate various tools and technologies that enable them to operate and improve the user’s browsing experience. These include cookies, scripts, plugins and web beacons, which are used to make the website interactive, to provide certain functionalities and, in some cases, to obtain limited information about how users use it.
From a legal perspective, the use of these technologies may be relevant in terms of data protection and privacy, insofar as some of them may involve the processing of personal data or the tracking of users’ behaviour.
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are a temporary system for storing and retrieving information. They are small digital files that a website (in this case, the website you are on: https://foncal.es/) stores on your device -for example, on your computer or mobile phone- when you visit it. This stored information may be returned to our servers or to the relevant servers of other companies during a subsequent visit.
This information makes it possible to remember certain information about your visit to that website so that, when you return, the website can recognise you and work in a more convenient or personalised way.
Put simply, cookies enable a website to remember matters such as the language chosen, whether you have logged in, which products you added to a shopping basket or how the website is used, so that you do not have to repeat those actions every time you access it.
Some cookies are necessary for the website to function properly, while others are used to obtain statistical information on the use of the website or to display content and advertising tailored to the user’s interests.
3. What are scripts?
Scripts are small programs or pieces of code that run automatically when a person visits a website or uses an application, and which enable that website to perform certain functions dynamically. This code runs on our server or on your device.
In plain terms, scripts allow a website to be more than just a set of static texts and images and to “react” to what the user does. Thanks to them, for example, a website can display a notice, validate a form before it is submitted, play a video, load content without reloading the entire page or collect information about how the site is browsed.
In practical terms, many scripts are necessary for a website to function properly and to provide a normal user experience. Others, however, are used for additional purposes, such as analysing users’ behaviour or personalising content and advertising.
4. What is a web beacon?
A web beacon (or pixel tag) is a small, invisible piece of text or image on a website that is used to monitor traffic on a website. To do so, it stores data about the customers who visit the page.
In other words, it works as a verification signal. When a person accesses a web page containing a web beacon, the user’s device automatically connects to the server hosting that beacon, which makes it possible to obtain basic information about that action, such as the fact that the content has been opened, when this was done or from what type of device.
Web beacons are commonly used for statistical and measurement purposes, for example to find out how many people visit a particular page, and sometimes to personalise content.
5. What is a plugin?
A plugin is a small tool or add-on that is added to a program, an application or a website in order to extend its functions without the need to modify the main system.
Put simply, a plugin is used to add new utilities or improve existing ones. For example, a plugin may be used on a website to display a contact form, integrate a payment system, play videos, manage comments or connect the website to social networks. The main program works on its own, but the plugin allows it to do more things quickly and easily.
In practical terms, many plugins are developed by third-party companies and may involve the use of cookies, scripts or other information-gathering systems; therefore, where they affect user data, their use must be taken into account for the purposes of information and compliance with data protection and cookie legislation.
Our website, https://foncal.es/ (hereinafter: “the website”), uses cookies and other related technologies (for convenience, all such technologies are referred to as “cookies”).
So that you can understand the scope of cookies, throughout this page we inform you about the use of cookies on our website.
6. Cookies
It is essential that you know that cookies may be managed by this company, in which case they are first-party cookies (managed directly by the publisher of the website visited, that is, us), or by third-party companies (sent by different entities and used to collect information about the user’s behaviour across different websites, enabling services such as personalised advertising).
6.1 Technical or functional cookies
Some cookies enable certain parts of the website to function properly and the user’s preferences to be remembered. By placing functional cookies, we make browsing easier, as they avoid having to enter the same information repeatedly each time the website is visited, allowing, among other examples, items added to the shopping basket to remain there until the payment process is completed.
This type of cookie, known as technical or functional cookies, is necessary for the basic operation of the website and, for this reason, may be used without the need to obtain the user’s consent, notwithstanding the fact that their use is clearly explained in this cookie policy.
6.2 Marketing/tracking cookies
Marketing or tracking cookies are used to collect information about the user’s browsing in order to create profiles and display advertising related to their interests.
These cookies make it possible, for example, to know which content has been visited or which products may be most relevant to the user. Marketing cookies include, among others, preference or personalisation cookies, analytics or measurement cookies and behavioural advertising cookies.
This type of cookie may also be used to track the user within this website or across different websites for similar advertising or marketing purposes. Given their purpose, these cookies are not necessary for the basic operation of the website and we will only use them when you have given your consent.
